New Publication: Women and Girls Fund – Country Gender Profile for Rwanda (December 2024)
We are pleased to share the Country Gender Profile for Rwanda, developed under the Women and Girls Fund (WGF)—a Scottish Government–funded initiative implemented by Ecorys UK, Ecorys Zambia, and the Forum of African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Chapters in Rwanda, Malawi, and Zambia.
This comprehensive profile offers a detailed gender analysis across key sectors—including governance, education, health, agriculture, private sector, climate change, and ICT—highlighting both Rwanda’s remarkable progress and persistent challenges in advancing gender equality. It documents legal and policy frameworks, institutional mechanisms, and lived realities of women and girls, with special attention to marginalized groups such as those with disabilities and rural populations.
The report also captures insights from consultations with Women and Girl-Led Organizations (WGLOs), identifying systemic barriers like limited access to funding, cultural norms, and gaps in infrastructure and services—while offering actionable recommendations for policymakers, donors, and civil society.
As part of a broader effort to support locally led, participatory funding for gender equality, this profile serves as a critical evidence base for designing responsive, inclusive, and impactful interventions in Rwanda.
