Building Inclusive Politics: ZNWL Engages Kabwe Political Parties on Gender Mainstreaming

Building Inclusive Politics: ZNWL Engages Kabwe Political Parties on Gender Mainstreaming

On 24th March 2026, the Zambia National Women’s Lobby (ZNWL) , with support from the Women and Girls Fund, convened a vital advocacy and engagement initiative with political parties in Kabwe. The meeting brought together leadership from across the political spectrum, including representatives from UPND, NNP (formerly MMD), FDD, SP, CF, and NHP, in a unified effort to advance gender mainstreaming and social inclusion within political structures.

A Unified Front for Inclusion

The engagement sought to strengthen the capacity of political party leadership in Kabwe to effectively integrate gender mainstreaming and social inclusion into party structures, policies, and political processes. Recognizing that meaningful change requires commitment from all parties, ZNWL created a space for constructive dialogue, shared learning, and collective action.

Key Outcomes Targeted

During the engagement, participants worked toward the following outcomes:

  • Enhanced understanding of gender mainstreaming and social inclusion in political processes, equipping leaders with the knowledge to champion these principles within their parties.

  • Strengthened advocacy skills among political leaders to influence internal party processes, including candidate selection, policy formulation, and leadership succession.

  • Improved capacity of leaders to develop clear commitments and actionable strategies that promote inclusion and equality, moving beyond rhetoric to measurable action.

A Step Toward a More Representative Zambia

This initiative marks a significant step toward building inclusive, equitable, and representative political systems in Zambia. By engaging political parties at the local level, ZNWL is laying the groundwork for a political culture where women and other marginalized groups are not only included but actively supported to participate and lead.

The engagement in Kabwe reflects a growing recognition that gender equality is not a partisan issue—it is a national priority. As political leaders commit to transforming their parties from within, the promise of a more representative democracy draws closer.

“When political parties lead on inclusion, the nation follows.”
