WGF Capacity Programme Explores Strategic Advocacy and the ‘Criteria Triangle’

A compass is only useful when it knows where north is.
For Civil Society Organisations, advocacy is the north. It is what guides ourwork, shapes our priorities, and keeps the focus on creating positive change in ourcommunities.
But with so many important issues affecting women and girls, how do organisations decide where to focus their advocacy efforts?
During the Women and Girls Fund (WGF) capacity-strengthening programme, implemented by YWCA Rwanda in partnership with @fawe.rwanda and funded by the @scottgov, through @ecorys UK, participants explored a practical decision-making tool known as the “Criteria Triangle”.
Before selecting an advocacy issue, organisations are encouraged to ask themselves:
🔺 Is the issue important?
🔺 Do we have the capacity to address it?
🔺 Will addressing it create meaningful impact?
The answers help organisations prioritise their efforts and focus on advocacy that is strategic, impactful, and capable of driving lasting change.
Because effective advocacy isn’t about speaking on every issue—it’s about speaking on the right issue, at the right time, with the greatest potential to make a difference.
