Advocacy Grant

This grant supports Women and Girl Led Organisations (WGLOs) in implementing advocacy projects to promote gender equality. The funds are used to:

• Support advocacy projects addressing critical issues around gender equality and women empowerment in the various thematic areas. WGLOs are encouraged to work in partnership and coalitions to amplify the impact of their advocacy efforts.
• Support capacity development interventions designed to strengthen a WGLO by supporting priority capacity needs identified through an organisational capacity assessment, including staff and board training, the purchase of equipment, systems strengthening, policy development, and other organisational improvement areas identified by the WGLO.
• Include research interventions that WGLOs can undertake themselves to ensure evidence-based advocacy.

Social Movement Grant

This grant is accessible to social movements specifically in Zambia. Movements are not registered entities, so to reduce fiduciary risk, funding is channelled through a registered and established WGLO referred to as a financial sponsor. The financial sponsor has to demonstrate capacity to hold the grant on behalf of the movement and is responsible for reporting on the use of the grant.

Capacity Development Grant

This grant is intended to strengthen the organisational capacity of WGLOs in specific areas including policy engagement and advocacy, gender equality, strategic planning, financial management, basic research skills, disability rights, monitoring and evaluation, and proposal writing. This grant has been used to run specific training for WGLOs based on their identified needs.

Research Grant

This grant strengthens research capacity for effective advocacy. Research is critical for ensuring evidence-based advocacy that is acceptable to policymakers. The grant aims to enhance the research capacity for WGLOs and provide them with the resources necessary to generate actionable data for advocacy.

Swift Action Grant

This grant provides rapid response funding to address urgent issues requiring immediate action. Implemented in Malawi and Zambia, it primarily supports quick mobilisation for advocacy — enabling WGLOs to swiftly organise around pressing issues that demand immediate advocacy efforts. Examples include mobilising support to advocate for or against the passage of a specific bill in parliament, rapid response to critical incidences that require drawing policymakers’ attention to a pressing issue, and providing timely legal support to WGLO representatives who face arrest while legitimately engaging in advocacy activities.
