Bridging Leaders and Communities: Post-Election Dialogues with Female Councillors in Kabwe and Mkushi

Bridging Leaders and Communities: Post-Election Dialogues with Female Councillors in Kabwe and Mkushi

With support from Ecorys and funding from the Scottish Government, The Zambia National Women’s Lobby (ZNWL) conducted monitoring and community dialogue meetings in September 2026 in Kabwe and Mkushi, featuring women who participated in the 13 August 2026 General Elections and were elected as Councillors.
The five elected female Councillors who participated in the dialogues were:
Kabwe
  • Beatrice Changala – Muwowo East, Bwacha Ward
  • Naomi Mpundu – Chimanimani Ward
  • Siphiwe Mwanza – Highridge Ward Mkushi
  • Judith Kalala – Matuko Ward
  • Rhoda Musonda – Chalata Ward
The community dialogues focused on:
  • Elected female Councillors appreciating communities for their support and votes.
  • Lessons and experiences from the 2026 General Elections.
  • How Councillors and communities can work together to address local development priorities.
  • The role of communities in supporting women in leadership.
  • Continued engagement between elected female Councillors and their communities to promote transparency, accountability and responsive leadership.
The discussions highlighted an important message: women’s political participation does not end when elections are over. Sustained engagement between women leaders and their communities is essential for strengthening inclusive, transparent and accountable leadership.
ZNWL continues to promote women’s meaningful participation in leadership and decision-making at local and national levels.
